There was a time, Rosalynn Carter once confessed, when she dreaded going back to Plains, her tiny Georgia hometown. She was enjoying her life as a young sailor’s wife, relishing the freedom and sense of adventure that came from being so far from home. “I had been self-sufficient and independent from my mother and Jimmy’s mother,” Mrs. Carter, who died on Sunday at the age of 96, recalled several years ago in an interview. “And I knew that if I went home, I was going to have to come back to them.”The anger faded. Eventually, she said, no matter where she was in the world, she was always eager to get home to Plains.

Several years ago, I got out of a relationship in which arguments were increasingly part of our routine as a couple. I remember always feeling confused after our fights: Why did we say the same words over again in different situations? I wrote a script based on my experiences: a scene in which a couple has an intense verbal fight. They were tasked with playing the roles in my script, repeating the argument over and over — and working through the lines as a real couple. How they act and react could bring them closer or widen the divide between them.

CNN —A fast-moving wildfire in southern New Jersey has grown to nearly 4,000 acres less than 24 hours after it started. ☆ ‘Shrinking’ Review: When a Therapist Needs Therapy

The delicate polarities that exist within the world of “Shrinking” would certainly include the close-to-antic performance of Jason Segel vs. that of a dryly hilarious Harrison Ford. And the comic dynamic between the glorious Jessica Williams and the askew characters played by Messrs. Ford and Segel. But more essential to the 10-episode series is the seesawing sensation it maintains between profoundly dysfunctional people and feel-good comedy. But the overall sense is a little like laughing at a funeral; the human impulses are familiar, a little perverse and somehow comforting. Ms. Miller is wonderfully droll; Liz’s good deeds do not go unpunished.
